Skating Rink in Emmons

"In 1927, Frank Barlow of Clear Lake, Iowa, set up a skating rink tent in Emmons, Minnesota. Later, Carl Peterson of Forest City, Iowa, and Charles Hermanson of Lake Mills, Iowa, purchased the rink from Mr. Barlow. They were 24 years old. In 1928, Charles Hermanson sold his half to Carl Peterson. In the winter time, the skating rink tents were torn down until the next summer. Carl ran a rink for 35 years, setting up and skating in 50 different communities, most in Worth and Winnebago counties in Iowa, and in Freeborn County, Minnesota. Among these was Emmons, where this picture was taken. Rev. Philip Peters of Albert Lea was in partnership for ten years. Mr. Peters taught school before going into the ministry. Carl Peterson died in 1963. (Information: Courtesy of Rev.
