Emmons, MN is located in south central Minnesota on the Minnesota side of the Minnesota/Iowa Border.  Due to Emmons' location on the MN/IA border, some Emmons addresses are actually located in Iowa.  The city of 432 residents is conveniently located at the intersection of State Highway 69 and County Road 4 on the shores of State Line Lake.  Emmons, Minnesota is a short commute from both Albert Lea, MN (12 miles) and Lake Mills, IA (6 miles).  Other nearby towns include Twin Lakes (MN), Glenville (MN), Alden (MN), Conger (MN), Northwood (IA), Forest City (IA), Mason City (IA), and Clear Lake (IA).  Emmons is located a short drive from two major Interstate Highways: I-90 running east/west and I-35 running north/south.

State Line Lake is a focal point of Emmons, Minnesota.  There is abundant wildlife, opportunities for hunting and boating, building sites, and gorgeous views.  Located on the western shore of State Line Lake, tree-filled Gateway Park boasts a lighted baseball diamond with grandstand, playground areas, picnic grounds featuring two shelters, modern restroom facilities, lots of wildlife, and ample parking.  The exclusive 440-acre Pheasant Links Golf Course/Hunting/Sporting Clay establishment, owned and operated by Diamond Jo's Casino, is located on the north side of State Line Lake.  For a complete list of Emmons businesses click on the Business Directory link.

Emmons local government consists of 1 mayor (Paul Henschel)  and 4 city councilors (Helen Larson, Mark Heggestad, Imogene Opdahl and Valerie Taylor).  City council meetings are held 7pm the second monday of every month at the Emmons City Hall.  Law enforcement protection is provided by the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office and Fire/EMS service is provided by the Emmons Volunteer Fire Department/First Responders.  Emmons is approximately 15 minutes from the Albert Lea Medical Center, part of the world class Mayo Health System and approximately 35 minutes from Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, IA.  Nearby airports include the Albert Lea Airport, Mason City Airport, and Rochester International Airport. Emmons is part of the Glenville-Emmons School District, but is also served by the Alden-Conger School District, Albert Lea School District, and Lake Mills School District through open enrollment.  Nearby colleges include Riverland Community College in Albert Lea and Austin, MN as well as Waldorf College in Forest City, IA.  Emmons also has a Community Library.

Housing is extremely affordable in the Emmons, Minnesota area.  The median home price, according to the US Census Bureau, is $54,500.  One will find a blend of modern homes, as well as classic homes built during Emmons' heyday in the late 1800's/early 1900's.  There are apartments and rental homes also available.

Each summer, Emmons celebrates its location on the Minnesota/Iowa border with Borderfest.  Borderfest consists of a weekend filled with nightly street dances, live entertainment, a parade, and a car/motorcycle show & cruise.  The Borderfest crowd often numbers around 1200 people.  Emmons has welcomed national country recording artists such as Jimmy Wayne ("Paper Angels" and "You Are") and Rachel Proctor ("Me and Emily" and "Days Like This").  Past entertaiment has also included the famous Johnny Holm Band, Vic Ferrari, The Rockin' Hollywoods, Lucky Town, and The Circuit Breakers.  Borderfest 2008 was held August 15th and 16th.
